Scouts Australia NSW is turning 100 this year and there are many exciting events and programs on offer that will offer all Members that opportunity

Celebrate “The Year of the Scout” and the Australian Centenary of Scouting in your program for 2008.

This is a fantastic year to promote and celebrate Scouting in Australia, to engage your local community, demonstrating the value of Scouting to young people and adults.

Key Events:

26th January

The Australia Day Spectacular: Scouts will be showcased during the Australia Day Spectacular at Darling Harbour. More than 150,000 people are expected to participate in the celebration and to see Scouts receive a special thank you from the community.

16th February

The Year of the Scout Slamboree - Join hundreds of other Scouts supporting the Sydney Razorbacks vs Melbourne Tigers in the final game of the NRL season

22nd or 23rd or 24th February

Founder’s Day – Groups are encouraged to use this weekend to engage with your local community by holding an Open Day/Registration Day.

March – December

*100 Good Turns for the 100th –each youth member and adult member of Scouts will be invited to participate in this National program.

March/April

*Scout Day at the Royal Easter Show - TBC

April– December

*Scarf Up for Scouting – each Group and Rover Crew will be issued with commemorative Centenary scarves to issue to prominent people in your community.

May – 21st November

*Virtual Campfire – Keeping the Flame Alive -Part 1 - make a 1-2 minute video demonstrating how to build a fire without it being a fire! – upload it to the Virtual Campfire site and

1st August

*Martin Place the “Place to Be” will see another great celebration event held at Martin Place in Sydney. You will also see Pyrmont Bridge at Darling Harbour filled with Scouting Centenary flags –

1st – 7th August

*100 flags for our 100 years – 100 Centenary Flags will fly across Pyrmont Bridge in Darling HarbourYour Group can purchase one of the specially designed Centenary flags with your Group’s name on it for future use!

25th – 26th October

*Seven Original Groups Camp - up to 1000 Scouts and Leaders from across NSW will converge on the Showgrounds to commemorate Australian Scouting by camping in the way Scouts did 100 years ago.

22nd – 23rd November

*District Leader’s Conference – A two-day conference focusing on the importance of the role of the District and the ways in which it supports the growth of the local Groups. TBC

Scouts Australia Flag to fly on the western flagpole of the Harbour Bridge and a Scouts Australia Banner to hang down the side of the pylon on the Harbour Bridge
