Camp food isn’t just about baked beans and toasted marshmallows. Camp meals just need to be quick, easy and not too messy! Why not whip up a batch of biscuits at your next cookout?
Biscuit Recipe – submitted by Lyn Anderson, Toukley Haven Scout Leader
What you will need (makes around 15 dozen biscuits):
- 12 heaped tablespoons of sugar (caster sugar works best)
- 500 g softened butter or margarine
- 1 can Nestle condensed milk (Unsweetened)
- 4 ½ cups of self raising flour
How to do it:
- Preheat oven to 180-200 degrees
- Cream butter and sugar, then add milk
- Mix well
- Slowly add flour
- Place approx 2cm sized balls of mix onto lined or greased baking trays
- Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
Variations: You can add all sorts of things to this recipe like mini M&Ms, choc chips, mixed fruit, sultanas, and colourings. If adding dry ingredients omit 1/2 flour and add things like coconut or cocoa.
Mash Potacon – submitted by Tai, 1st North Turramurra Scout Group
What you will need:
- Dry form Mash Potato Mix
- Finely chopped bacon and onion pieces
- Green peas
How to do it:
- Fry the bacon and onion pieces
- Add hot water to the potato mix
- Add green peas
- Combine ingredients together
Pita Bread Pizza
What you will need:
- Pack of Pita rounds (usually a pack of 6)
- 1 x 400g zip lock bag of prepared pizza sauce
- 1 x 225g zip lock bag of shredded mozzarella cheese
- Any other toppings you like, like ham, pineapple or red capsicum
How to do it:
- Place pita bread on a hot plate to toast
- Turn over, add pizza sauce, cheese and any other toppings you like
- Toast it until the cheese melts
