Scouting is fun. There’s no doubt about it. That’s the first thing most Scouts will tell you. But what makes Scouting so much fun?
Here are some of our favourite activities for Scouts:

Mock First Aid Emergency

Who would like it?

Bandages, splints, blood (red food colouring & Vaseline), bones (from butcher for protruding bones), washable textas (bruising)

How does it work?
|
Each patrol or six takes it in turns to set up their ‘tragic’ scene. Another patrol then practises their first aid by attending to all the injuries. Rotate around the patrols until everyone has been victims, and everyone has been the first aider

Bike Safety Night
|

Who would like it?
|
Joeys, Cubs, Scouts

Bikes, bike accessories, helmets
|
|
How does it work?
|
Contact your local police and invite them to your meeting night to teach you all about bike safety. You can also ask if they will check your bikes to make sure they are safe for you to ride.

Balista water fights
|
|
Who would like it?

Cubs, Scouts

Equipment

Poles (4 long, 3 short per balista), ropes (5 per balista), water bombs
|
|
How does it work?
|
Practise your knots & lashings by building a ballista, and once you’re done, get your balistas in position for a waterfight against the other patrols… and maybe even the leaders! If you haven’t made a ballista before, check the fieldbook for directions.

Pirate night- can include walk the plank, NSEW
|

Pirate costume, plank & crates; treasure

How does it work?
|
See how well you’d do as a pirate!
- Practising walking the plank- if you don’t fall off you can lift it higher off the ground.
- N.S.E.W- label the walls of your hall as the compass points. Follow leader’s calls to be the first to touch the correct wall. You can even add more actions like scrubbing the deck and hoisting the sails!
Other activities could include treasure hunts, making flags, and capture the flag
