Mawson Scholarship in Leadership Applications Open Now! Print E-mail

The Mawson Scholarship in Leadership is an advanced training program for Venturer Scouts aged 15 to 18 years.

Two courses will be running in 2012 as follows:

  • 2-6 July 2012 BP Park, Queensland Closing date: 4 May 2012
  • 1-5 October 2012 Camp Cottermouth, ACT Closing date: 20 July 2012

Up to 30 participants will be selected to attend each course. Each participant should have completed the Venturer Scout Leadership Course (or similar) prior to attending the course. Participants should also hold a current leadership role or have recent leadership experience.

Conducted over five days, participants will receive instruction on Teamwork and the Scout Method; Behaviour Management and Conflict Resolution; Effective Programming and Activity Planning; Communication and Effective Public Speaking; Decision Making and Problem Solving and much more.

All participants will be issued with a certificate upon completion of the course. The reverse side of this certificate will document all sessions and skills covered by the training program.

Participants will be accommodated in dormitories at the venue and full catering will be supplied. Flights to the venue (where required) will be provided free of charge. The selection of participants will be managed by each Branch. Each Branch will nominate a specific quota of candidates.

The cost to participants is $100 and includes all meals and accommodation.

If your application is successful you will be asked to forward a cheque for $100 to the Scouts Australia Institute of Training within 30 days of your advice.

This program provides a great opportunity for Venturer age youth to experience living with a Scouting family and attending school and weekly meetings.
