Scout International Student Exchange Program (SISEP)

This program provides a great opportunity for Venturer age youth to experience living with a Scouting family and attending school and weekly meetings. 

We currently have two Youth Members from Denmark staying with families in the Wollongong area. They have been attending school, and the Venturer families have taken them on outings to see some of the sights of NSW.  Their visit is just about finished and they will be departing in the next few days.

Later this year we have three Youth Members from NSW going overseas, one is going to Denmark, one to Japan and one to England. 

Keep a look out for applications which will be opened later in the year, for host families and exchanges overseas.

I have taken over the role of NSW Coordinator for this exciting program.  My role includes interviewing host families and applicants for overseas exchange, running reference checks, meet and greets at airport and departure, training sessions for youth going on exchange overseas and providing information for their parents.

I would like to thank Claire Geary for her support and Bob McDonald for his warm welcome.  I am thrilled at being involved in such a great program!

• Pilgrimage for Scout Chaplains

The Scout Association is an international youth organisation with over 25 million Members in more than 180 countries.

International travel and the exchanging of ideas and hope between different people and cultures gives youth and adult Members a broader perspective on Scouting and life.

• Learn about Australia’s strong involvement in the Asia-Pacific Region (APR).
• Join an Australian Contingent – an organised group of Scout members led by a Contingent Leader that attends an overseas Scout event, such as the 10th NZ Venture in 2007, the 7th Nippon Venture in 2008 or an International Agoonoree.
• Attend an exciting international event – there are many overseas events and not all of these will have an official Australian Contingent. Scouts Australia also participates in international aid and development projects around the world, conferences and seminars, and training courses.
• Apply for a scholarship to fund your overseas travel.
• Become an exchange student with an overseas Scout Group.
• Participate in the Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) and the Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) - the world’s biggest Scout event in October each year that connects 500,000 Scouts and Guides from all over the world by means of amateur radio and Internet techniques.
• Make international friends through the Pen-Pal Program - communicate with overseas Scouts to gain an "international experience" without leaving home.
• Participate in the Sister Cities Project, established as Scouts Australia’s Gifts for Peace project, which aims to link every Scout Group in Australia with a Scout Group from overseas. The link will facilitate sharing of cultures, stories, artefacts, ideas and creating an understanding of different associations as well as an exchange of young people between the two Groups.
