On Saturday 26 August, the Liên Đoàn Văn Lang – 1st Canley Heights Scouts Group celebrated its 25th birthday.
Impressive musical performances from Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, Leaders and parent supporters entertained the crowd of more than 300 guests. The highlight of the night was a one-of-a-kind Vietnamese rap song that described the history of Vietnamese scouting and the importance of respect and care.
The Scout Hall hosted a magnificent display of the Group’s history through photographs, plaques and memorabilia from across NSW and around the world. The collection was increased on the night as woodbadges were presented to Minh-Man Pham (Cub Scout Leader) and To Loan Huynh (Assistant CSL).
The audience included many former leaders and supporters, along with Neville Tomkins (Chief Commissioner, Scouts NSW), Sue Bartlett (Regional Commissioner, Hume) and Belinda Francis (Deputy Chief Commissioner – Growth, Strategies and Group Support).
The organisation of this celebratory event was part of Vienna Wong’s Australian Scout Medallion project, supported by Venturers Sharon Nguyen and Anh Nguyen who were the MCs for the night. A real youth led, adult supported effort.
The Chief Commissioner congratulated 1st Canley Heights on its excellent youth program, noting how Vietnamese scouting is an integral part of the rich fabric of diversity of our scouting community across NSW.
