Adventurous Activities plays an integral role in the delivery of Scouting to our Youth and Adult Members in NSW. Below are some resources to assist Leaders with their planning and delivery of Adventurous Activities in their programs.
Scouts Australia NSW has one Adventurous Activity Policy that is supported by a variety of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The Adventurous Activities policies and rules continue to be reviewed on a regular basis by the State Activities Council to ensure that Scouts Australia NSW continues to meet community expectations and best practice within the outdoor recreation environment.
Leaders are encouraged to check this website on a regular basis to ensure that they remain up to date with any information.
Where possible, training in these skills aligns with formal qualifications in Outdoor Recreation and is coordinated by the State Training Team. The opportunity to obtain Statements of Attainment, SISSS00015 – Bushwalking Guide Controlled Environment Skillset, Certificate II, Certificate III or Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation is available to all Venturers, Rovers and Leaders – you should check the State Training Calendar for details of the courses.

Mobile Climbing Walls
Scouts NSW has been fortunate enough to obtain a mobile climbing wall to assist in our provision of adventurous activities. To assist with easy collection and drop off, the wall will be stored at the Baden Powell Scout Centre at Pennant Hills.
The wall was obtained through generous donations by Dick Smith and Peter Sjoquist and is greatly appreciated.
A centralised booking system is in place to assist Groups, Districts and Regions. The cost of the wall is $200 per day (this does not include travel or set up days) which is considerably cheaper than other commercial providers.
All equipment is provided. An adult with SIS Abseil Guide – Single-Pitch Artificial and a current HLTAID003 – Provide First Aid is the minimum qualification required to operate the climbing wall.
