Youth Safe Advocates are the face of Scouts NSW's Child Safety initiatives.
At Scouts NSW, we are committed to developing a culture where young people feel safe, supported and empowered to speak up.
- Neville Tomkins OAM JP, Chief Commissioner of Scouts NSW
The Scouts NSW Youth Safe Advocates Scheme (YSA) aims to provide support for our youth members, giving them a safe environment where they are aware of their rights to feel safe, and can speak openly about any issues and concerns they may have.
Our trained panel of Youth Safe Advocates attend Scout activities and events across the State to promote Child Safe Messaging, listen to concerns and provide support from those concerned about their own safety, or the safety of another member.
Each Advocate will wear a unique Youth Safe Advocate badge and woggle at events to ensure they can be identified as a champion of child safety, provide advice and support, and where necessary, take disclosures or reports.
Each Youth Safe Advocate has undergone extensive online training by the Office of the Children's Guardian, as well as face-to-face training with Scouts, so they understand how to take disclosures and report them appropriately.
Adult Members and Supporters of Scouts NSW can nominate themselves as a potential Youth Safe Advocate by submitting an Expression of Interest here.
All Expressions of Interest will be forwarded to relevant Region Commissioners and Deputy Chief Commissioners for endorsement. Members and Supporters selected as Youth Safe Advocates will undergo extensive high-level training by the Office of the Children’s Guardian, as well as face-to-face training with Scouts.
