FAQs for Parents

All new youth applicants who apply for membership with Scouts NSW must complete a Youth Member Application (Y1).  The Y1 is now available online and can be used as an alternate to the traditional paper Y1 form.

Usually, a child can trial Scouts with their local Scout Group prior to joining. Once your child has trialled Scouts and is ready to join, your Section Leader will provide you with a flyer that contains instructions for filling in the Youth Membership Application Form (Y1).

Once you receive the Y1 form as a PDF via email, please email the form to the email address listed on the flyer given to you by the Leader.

Your Leader will provide you with a flyer containing the details of where to access the Y1 form and the email address to send it.

Yes, while we recommend using the online version of the Y1, the paper application is still available and accepted.

The content of the Youth Membership Form (Y1) has not changed. Scouts NSW has made this form available online to simplify the process for a prospective youth member to join Scouts NSW eliminating the need for a paper form.  The paper Y1 form can still be used and will be accepted by Region Offices.

  • Step 1: Hand out customisable flyers to prospective members that will direct them to the Youth Member Application Form (Y1) on the Scouts NSW website and provide them the Scout correct Group email address to send their completed form.
  • Step 2: The prospective member’s parent/ primary carer fills in the Y1 online and receives a PDF version via email.
  • Step 3: The prospective member’s parent/ primary carer forwards the PDF to the Scout Group’s email address listed on the flyer.
  • Step 4: The Group Leader endorses/approves the Adult Helper and sends the endorsed PDF form to the Region Office via email.

As a Group Leader, it is your responsibility to endorse the Y1 form, and forward a copy to your Region Office as soon as possible after you have received it from the new applicant.

As a Group Leader, you will need to endorse the form, and then forward it to your Region Office.
