National Council Nominations

Scouts Australia NSW Branch (Scouts NSW) is seeking nominations for six (6) positions to represent Scouts NSW on the Scouts Australia National Council. The National Council is the governing body of the Scout Association of Australia.

Candidates need to have a passion for the values of Scouting , an understanding of contemporary Scouting and current issues and challenges, and the ability to contribute to discussions and decisions at the National level.  National Councillors are expected to vote on issues affecting the national body of Scouts Australia with the interests of both Scouts Australia and Scouts NSW in mind.

The role involves attendance at meetings of the National Council when the meeting is hosted in Sydney and either attending or providing proxy to an attending delegate when the meeting is held interstate.  Meetings are held on at least one occasion per year.  NSW Councillors will generally meet (by teleconference) prior to National Meetings to review any items requiring decisions that Councillors will vote on.

Scouts NSW National Councillors report to the Chief Commissioner as the head of the NSW Delegation to the National Council.

There are three (3) positions that are for a one (1) year term. The remaining three (3) positions are for a three (3) year term.

Scouts NSW By-Law 2(a) states: Each Branch may nominate annually, and the National Council shall appoint to its membership three (3) further persons, at least one of whom shall be other than an appointed leader, two of whom at the time of appointment are adult members of the Branch under 30 years of age. Such members shall retire annually, but shall be eligible for renomination and re‐appointment.

You will be required to provide a short statement of no more than 500 words outlining why you wish to undertake this role, including any relevant experience or skills that you have, and upload a copy of your resume. Successful candidates will be subject to a Police background check.  Candidates do not need to be uniformed members of Scouts NSW.

The NSW Board of Directors will review the nominations and determine the nominees to be put forward for election at the National Council AGM.  Successful nominees commence their term immediately following the election.
