Managing Mental Health During COVID19

Scouts Managing the Mental Challenges of COVID-19: A Guide for Adult Members, Rover Scouts, Venturer Scouts and Supporters

We have all been learning to adapt and manage our physical lives since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether it has been adjusting to social distancing, self-isolation or simply dealing with the restrictive nature of everyday services, we have learned to do things very differently. This is especially true of the way we play the game of Scouting and your response has been terrific. Scouting delivered virtually through Scouting@Home has been a great success and continues to provide members with alternatives to continuing their Scouting journey and in some cases amplified the opportunity.

However, for some there has been, or is beginning to emerge, a mental health challenge. For many Australians this has been accentuated through needing to work from home or no longer having employment. In some cases, it has been the challenge of home schooling or the disconnection with family through the need for self-isolation. All of this has introduced new pressures to families and in some cases our mental well-being is being affected. This is perhaps more so amongst our Adult Members, Rover Scouts, Venturer Scouts and Supporters and although we are starting to see some road-maps to recovery being prepared – there is still a long way to go.

With the support of a Mental Health Professional – Jay Thompson who is (also) a Scout Leader in the UK, we present this webinar. In a little over a half hour Jay talks about the mental health challenges we may be facing and how you can manage your mental health during COVID-19.
