UTS Brings High School Students to Bundilla

Scouts were proud to host the Sky High Outdoor Challenge program run by University of Technology (UTS) at Bundilla Scout Camp over four days.

This program is run in conjunction with NSW High Schools – specifically targeting Year 8 and 9 students who have been identified as being at risk.

Scouts in Greater Western Sydney Region ran an initiative program for up to 30 students per day.

These students come from all over Sydney:

  • East Hills Boys High, Ashton High and Chester Hill High on day 1
  • Birrong Boys High, Birrong Girls High and Merrylands High on day 2
  • Lurnea High and James Busby High on day 3
  • JJ Cahill High, Sir Joseph Banks High and Cabramatta High on day 4

Exciting challenged for the students included Ping Pong Railway, Nuclear Power Station Clean-up, Spider Web, Feather Stick, and pitching a six-person tent.

The program finished each day with the students breaking into teams to prepare and service lunch.

A big B-R-A-V-O to those Scouts and Leaders who took part in delivering this important program to the Sky High Outdoor Challenge (UTS) team members, including: Rex Willard (1st Toongabbie), Jenny Liles and Kelvin Russel (1st Murray Farm), Gillian Ponnampalam (1st Westmead), Matt Dimmock (1st/ 2nd Merrylands Rovers), Ann Pounder (Honorary Commissioner), Brian Nelson (RC Venturers), and John Pestana (State Commissioner – Community Liaison, Diversity and Inclusion). And thank you, also to Tony Dent from GWSR and Stuart Warren from 1st North Sydney both who were instrumental in helping set this up with UTS.

The event was thoroughly enjoyed by both the Scouts and the students. GWSR will have another opportunity to hold a Sky High Outdoor Challenge program later this year.
